Hoag Health Center — Huntington Beach becomes first Huntington Beach medical building to receive LEED Silver certification.
(October 13, 2014, Newport Beach, CA) With its commitment to sustainable design, Hoag Health Center Huntington Beach became the city’s first healthcare property to be awarded LEED Silver certification. The health center is among California Commercial most recent client projects to earn LEED recognition, a prestigious mark of achievement from the U.S. Green Building Council.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized award for sustainable building design, construction, maintenance, and operation. The program offers four levels of certifications ranging from LEED Certified to Platinum. Hoag Health Center Huntington Beach was awarded LEED Silver certification under the BD+C (Building Design and Construction) rating system in the Core & Shell category.
Attaining LEED Silver under the BD+C rating system was especially challenging in that the project involved connecting the new structure to an existing building. With the help of California Commercial, Hoag Health Center Huntington Beach achieved LEED’s rigorous certification requirements of sustainability, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design. Serving on as a member of the Hoag team, California Commercial will provide the property management and development expertise required to maintain LEED’s environmental standards.
"As an organization, we are committed to green design and building construction whenever possible to create properties focused on sustainability and long-term cost reduction," said George Okita, founder of California Commercial. “We are proud of Hoag’s LEED accomplishments and look forward to continuing to assist our clients with their sustainability goals.”
